Configure Microsoft Outlook with IMAP server

Step 1

 

  • Start Microsoft Outlook
  • Click on Tools menu and select Accounts ...

If you do not see the Accounts... option, your email client may have incorrect settings. Please goto step 7 before coming back.

 

 

Step 2

  • Select the Mail tab
  • Click on the Add button and select Mail...
 

 

Step 3

  • Input your full name if you would like to show it in the From field of outgoing message
  • Click on Next
 

 

Step 4

  • Input your ITSC account name together with domain name (@ust.hk)
  • Click on Next
 

 

Step 5

  • Input imap.stu.ust.hk to the Incoming mail server (for undergraduate)
  • Input smtp.ust.hk to Outgoing mail server
  • Note: If you are using the mail client outside campus, within ResNet or using the student dialup access, please refer to the page Authentication Required for Sending Mail for the additional settings after you have completed all the steps here.
  • Click on Next
 

 

Step 6

  • Be sure to select the Connect using my local network (LAN) option
  • Click on Next and follow the screen instructions
 

You have finished configured Microsoft Outlook and you should be able to access your mailboxes. In case there is problem, double check if there is any typing mistake or you may want to lookup any server settings which are specific to your ITSC account.


If you get problem in step 1, please go through the following steps :

Step 7

  • Click on Tools menu and select Options...
 

 

Step 8

  • Select the Mail Delivery tab and then
  • Click on the Reconfigure Mail Support ... button
 

 

Step 9

  • Select the Internet Only option
  • Click on Next
 

 

Step 10

  • Outlook will return to the previous screen
  • Click on the Accounts... button
  • Go back to step 2.
